A GUIDE TO
Primary School Children
Primary school age children need between 9-11 hours of sleep each night.
Try to maintain a regular bedtime and morning wake time, even on weekends.
A calm and relaxing bedtime routine with 2 to 3 cues that it is nearly time for sleep is really helpful in creating a calm and sleep-ready state.
A warm bath before bedtime is often a nice way to prepare children for sleep.
We recommend that children (& adults!) avoid all screens in the hour before bedtime, and no screens in bedrooms (e.g. TV, devices like iPad’s, laptops etc).
Avoid any caffeinated food or drinks.
It’s best to limit food too close to bedtime, but ‘sleepy snacks’ are ok
Some nice wind-down bedtime activities are reading, colouring in, guided relaxation or meditation stories, quiet activities like building lego, and listening to audiobooks.
